Dexter Returns! Limited Series Coming to Showtime

T.S. Elliot once wrote ‘This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper’.

And boy, did it feel like the team on Dexter wholly embraced that sentiment back in 2013 with the series finale of the show.

It was a flat ending to an (and let’s be honest here) uneven show, which saw Michael C. Hall’s serial killer/forensic technician Dexter Morgan fake his own death and became a frikkin lumberjack?!

As much as we went along for the ride and embraced a serial killer as our protagonist, I think I can safely assume I wasn’t the only one hoping that in the end we would still see some comeuppance dished out. I mean, it‘s not like it was unheard of, The Shield’s Vic Mackey, for example, didn’t end up getting away with his crimes.

It probably didn’t help either that a lot of us had two favourite shows wrapping up within a week of each other, with Breaking Bad bidding us farewell shortly after...and that show delivered a finale befitting the story and characters

Maybe that exacerbated the feeling that Dexter had just dropped the ball.

Anyway I digress, this isn’t an article dedicated to complaining about Dexter (honestly). Instead, it is a post celebrating the fact that Showtime may have similar thoughts on the lacklustre finale, as the studio announced they are bringing Dexter back for a 10 episode limited series.

Michael C. Hall is signed on to reprise the title role for which he won a Golden Globe in 2010. Clyde Phillips, the original showrunner, is also set to return.

The show is scheduled to begin production early in 2021 with a fall premiere in mind.

Even though I may have sounded sour, I was a fan of the show and can’t wait to revisit Dexter’s world...let‘s just hope they have a great ending in mind this time...no pressure...
