Disney Finds it's Ms. Marvel in Newcomer Iman Vellani

Updated: Oct 7, 2020

Wowza, talk about starting your career off with a bang!

Newcomer Iman Vellani has been cast in the title role of the upcoming Disney+ MCU series 'Ms. Marvel' (/Kamala Khan).

Vellani is a Canadian actress, and like the character she will soon bring to life, is the daughter of Muslim immigrants from Pakistan.

This is a pretty big deal as Marvel has been positioning Kamala Khan as an important figure in their universe through the comics and the recently released Avengers game. She has also appeared in animated form in the Disney animated series' Avengers Assemble and Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors.

Kamala Khan made history as the first Muslim character to headline a comic series back in 2013 and has been a popular mainstay ever since, quickly garnering a huge following.

Possessing a latent Inhuman gene, Muslim Pakistani-American and New Jersey native, Kamala Khan, is exposed to the Terrigen Mist; triggering her dormant superpowers and turning her into a superhero polymorph (her abilities include shape-shifting, size alteration and a healing factor).

Kamala took the Ms. Marvel name after her idol Carol Danvers left it vacant upon becoming Captain Marvel.

In her short existence in the Marvel comics universe, Kamala has already been a member of the Avengers and teen superhero team Champions.

If this series is HALF as fun as the comics, it'll be a massive success, and one I can't wait to see!

Iman Vellani's carrer is about to 'embiggen' in a huge way.
