Willow TV Series Coming to Disney+

Updated: Oct 26, 2020

Disney and Lucasfilm are stepping back into the world of it’s 1988 fan-favourite film, with a new series planned for Disney+.

Warwick Davis is set to reprise his role as the title character in a story said to be set many years after the events of the original film.

John M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians, G.I. Joe: Retaliation) has been tapped to direct the pilot and serve as executive producer alongside director of the original film, Ron Howard.

Jonathan Kasdan (Solo: A Star Wars Story...which was great. I don’t care what you say) wrote the pilot and will act as showrunner along with Wendy Mericle (Arrow).

Howard said “this isn’t a nostalgic throwback, it’s a creative lean forward, and it’s a blast to be a part of it”.

But let’s be real. The whole reason you do this sort of thing...especially if you are Disney...is to cash in on that sweet sweet nostalgia.

The show will be produced by Lucasfilm, with no release date yet announced.

Now Disney just needs to announce they got Val Kilmer back...
