Come on now...can Marvel and Disney really still tell us we aren't getting Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield at this point?!
Either way, this is great news, and is likely to have many fans excited as Spider-man 2 is still held by many as the gold standard of arachnid superhero movies.
As the villain from Sam Raimi's 2004 Spider-man 2, Alfred Molina gave us a fantastic portrayal of what has, in the last decade of comics (and well after this movie), become one of Spider-man's best and most formidable foes (read Amazing Spider-Man 700 and Superior Spider-man!)
The film will see Jamie Foxx return as Electro (the character he first portrayed in the 2014 Andrew Garfield-starring Amazing Spider-Man 2), J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson, and Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange.
Rumours also continue to swirl of the aforementioned Maguire and Garfield reprising their incarnations of Peter Parker/Spider-man.
It might not be hard to think Marvel is a bit jealous of Sony delivering fans the best Spider-man movie of all with Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse and wanting to try and capture some of that magic in live action.
What's clear, though, is that this seems to be the most obvious way to explain why the MCU will be without a Spider-man moving forward.
The Jon Watts directed/Tom Holland starring threequel, and final MCU Spider-man is due to be released December 17th, 2021.
