Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins to Re-Team for Cleopatra Biopic

Gal Gadot will reunite with Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins to take on the role of Cleopatra in an epic period biopic.

Paramount Pictures reportedly won the bidding war to secure the rights to the flick after beating out Universal, Warner Bros, and streaming giants Amazon and Netflix.

Based on an idea from Gadot, the movie will be written by Laeta Kalogridis, amongst whose credits sits another period biopic in the Oliver Stone directed film Alexander starring Colin Farrell and Angelina Jolie.

Kalogridis most recently wrote the 2019 anime-turned-Robert-Rodriguez film Alita Battle Angel.

This, of course, will not be the first time Cleopatra's story has been brought to the big screen. Most famously, she was played by Elizabeth Taylor in the 1963 Academy Award winning Cleopatra - the most expensive movie ever made at the time, and that has the dubious honour of almost bankrupting Fox.

I mean, just check out the clip below...the amount of extras alone is incredible. Also they featured a bit about this movie in the 1960's episode of CNN's fantastic series The Movies (which I highly recommend).

Gal Gadot will next be seen in Wonder Woman 1984, directed by Patty Jenkins and co-starring Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, and the Mandalorian himself, Pedro Pascal.

It is currently due to be released Christmas Day 2020 (if it is not further delayed by the Covid Shuffle).
