It is very rare movies based on video games actually turn out good, this we know to be true. The Resident Evil franchise has some fun moments, heck i even liked a couple of them, but they were by no means great films.
However, it looks like Capcom is going back to the well with this franchise as news that writer-director Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Below) is to helm a reboot of the Resident Evil series from Constantin Films.
Roberts has said they have come up with (uh-oh) an official origin story that will skew much closer to the first two blockbuster games 'Resident Evil' and 'Resident Evil 2', with the movie said to be set in Racoon City circa 1998.
It will also feature characters from those games, including Jill Valentine amd Chris and Claire Redfield. THAT part is awesome news!
The cast has also been announced and will feature Kaya Scodelario (Maze Runner) as Claire Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell (DC's Legends of Tomorrow, Upload) as Chris Redfield, Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Leon Kennedy, Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) as Albert Wesker, and Neal McDonough (Arrow, Walking Tall) as William Birkin.
Now I'm not saying this will be a tide-turner for video game based movies, but using elements and major characters from the games is certainly a step in the right direction.
